{"id":471,"date":"2009-11-28T19:57:06","date_gmt":"2009-11-28T19:57:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ondrocks2000.com\/standpoint\/2009\/11\/28\/an-epidemic-of-family-breakdown\/"},"modified":"2009-11-28T19:57:06","modified_gmt":"2009-11-28T19:57:06","slug":"an-epidemic-of-family-breakdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ondrocks2000.com\/standpoint\/2009\/11\/28\/an-epidemic-of-family-breakdown\/","title":{"rendered":"An Epidemic of Family Breakdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>     Normal   0         false   false   false                             MicrosoftInternetExplorer4   <\/xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>     <\/xml><![endif]--> <!--[if gte mso 10]> \n\n\n\n<style>  \/* Style Definitions *\/  table.MsoNormalTable \t{mso-style-name:\"Table Normal\"; \tmso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; \tmso-tstyle-colband-size:0; \tmso-style-noshow:yes; \tmso-style-parent:\"\"; \tmso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; \tmso-para-margin:0cm; \tmso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; \tmso-pagination:widow-orphan; \tfont-size:10.0pt; \tfont-family:\"Times New Roman\"; \tmso-ansi-language:#0400; \tmso-fareast-language:#0400; \tmso-bidi-language:#0400;} <\/style>\n\n\n\n <![endif]--> <\/p>\n<p>The family justice system in England and Wales is overstretched and nearer to breaking point than it has ever been, a leading family judge said today. <!--break--><\/p>\n<p>Sir Paul Coleridge, who sits in the High Court as Mr Justice Coleridge, gave three related reasons. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Family breakdown is at epidemic proportions in every sector of      our society, both indigenous and immigrant. <\/li>\n<li>There is not the slightest sign of any serious, concerted,      national or government effort to address the problem of family breakdown      from the causation end.<\/li>\n<li>The only weapon the country has to manage the problem of family      breakdown \u2013 the family justice system \u2013 is subject to continuing neglect      and squeeze. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The result of all this was that the mass of specialist expertise built up over the past 20 years was being put in serious jeopardy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot allow this to happen,\u201d he said in a speech to the Family Law Bar Association national conference in Bath. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildren cannot be removed from their parents or have their lives interfered with by society via a system that is just too small for the job, is run on the cheap, is on the verge of breaking and is subject to chronic delay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that Sir Paul has spoken along these lines.
