On Saturday 31 October, Islam4UK plans to hold a procession called \u201cMarch for Sharia\u201d starting at 1pm. They intend to march past the Houses of Parliament where their members will call for the imposition of Shariah law and for the House of Commons to be abolished.\u00a0The magnificent Muslims for Secular Democracy<\/a> are holding a counter demonstration \u201cagainst those who seek to undermine and challenge our values. We come from diverse social and religious backgrounds,\u201d they say, \u201cbut share a common belief in secular democracy and the values of the British liberal state such as legal and constitutional equality for all, equal rights for women and minorities, and the right to religious freedom (including freedom from religion).\u201d<\/p>\n

I gather that half the Standpoint team will be at the demo \u2013 a novel experience for the Tories among them \u2013 so you can meet your favourite writers as well as shout at idiots. <\/p>\n

The protest will be held at Piccadilly Circus from 1 PM on Saturday 31 October<\/strong> by the fountain, opposite the Trocadero<\/strong>. <\/p>\n
